This week I thought I would try something a little different and participate in Wandering Words weekly feature.
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page.
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first.
- Finally… reveal the book!

All her life, Alice has been haunted by visions of birds. But when the mysterious Crowley appears at Alice's door, he reveals she's been seeing Nightjars - the miraculous birds that guard our souls. And a shadowy faction wants to use her rare gift to hunt the magically gifted.
Forced to go on the run, Alice follows Crowley to an incredible alternate London, to hone her talents. But can she trust her? Alice must risk everything as she navigates a dangerous world of magic, marvels and death cults.
I've had this proof for a little while now, and every time I see it on my shelf, I get the great sense of 'I NEED to read that!' However, my summer has seen me taking part in readathons and focusing on my backlist of titles. I'm hoping to get this one read over this weekend.
Come join me over on Twitter.
